Jody Allen
Jody is a professional genealogist, historical researcher and history content editor based in West Bend, Wisconsin. Her clients include family historians, teachers, romance and historical authors. She is a member of Scottish Genealogist Society, St. Andrews Society of the City of Milwaukee, Historical Novel Society, the Great Lakes Chapter of the Historical Novel Society, Romance Writers of America and the Wisconsin Chapter of the Romance Writers of America.
Authors
An historical fiction reader 50 years, she cut my teeth on the historical romances of Nora Loft and historical fiction of Anya Seton and Barbara Erskine. After eleven years as book reviewer ( for CompuServe, Midwest Reviews, and Amazon) she began offering historical research and content edits for published and pre-published authors and has taught history research class to writers. Her clients include Anne Beggs, Blythe Gifford, Terri Brisbin, Cathy Maxwell, Maya Rodale, Jennifer Haymore, Saskia Walker and Lori Handeland.
Genealogy
She began family research in 1992 researching her paternal family from Kirkcudbright, Scotland, and County Offaly, Ireland. Since then her family research has taken her to Scotland, Ireland, and Ulster, Northern Ireland reaching as far back as 15th century. Her services include researching families beyond the basic BMDs and census, as well as reseaching houses, and communities. She has done research at the National Archives of Scotland, the General Registry House and local council archives and historical societies in Ayrshire, Fife, Dundee and Dumfries, Scotland. Her master thesis was a study of the bequeathing of personal property and land in colonial wills in Scots-Irish communities of Pennsylvania, Virginia and North Carolina from 1745-1800.
Education:
She earned an AA with an emphasis in Anthropology with honors from Peirce College in Puyallup, Washington in 1992 and a BA in History from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2003. In 2008 she earned a post-graduate certificate in British Local and Family History at the University of Dundee, Scotland. In 2011, she completed a distance-learning course in Medieval and Early Modern Scottish History (1100-1707) at the University of Dundee earning a post-graduate certificate. In November 2016, she completed a Masters of Letters in Family and Local History from the University of Dundee, Scotland .
